The Soda Pop King

There's nothing new about this video, but I re-watched it a couple of days ago, and I can honestly say, that I'm thinking about switching trades to selling soda pops or at least leaving this continent, as it's so hard to find anything that isn't made by Coca Cola or Pepsi.

John Nese is one of a kind, that's for sure. I like his passion, his knowledge, his wits and his spirit. Unfortunately I feel like trying all of the different pops because of the way he  talks about them. But I wouldn't be able to find any of them. I have however tried the Fentimans Curiosity Cola and some other pops from Fentimans, and I have to say, that they're delicious. And I'm sure that I would also enjoy all of the other brands and types, that he talks about.

  1. I love this store; very inspiring! A few years back, my band recorded in a studio a couple blocks away from Galco's. I think we went down there on the first day and stocked up on a ton of soda and old timey candy. An amazing place for small batch soda.

  2. Wow, you've actually visited the place. That's so cool. I would love to browse that place for a couple of hours and just make my way through the 500 different kind of pops, I'm sure there are some great things to be discovered there.

    What's your band called?

    Thanks for commenting.

They have a really good ginger/citrus, a great raspberry and an awesome rubarb soda.

  5. It is pretty overwhelming to shop the store actually, but exciting nonetheless. The website gives you chance to look and not feel rushed into decision which is nice.

My current band is called Old Arrows. I guess you could call it Americana rock haha. Check us out if you feel so inclined at http://www.oldarrows.bandcamp.com. My previous project, Telephone & Telegraph, had a more obvious country influence. The album is also online at http://www.telephonetelegraph.bandcamp.com

  6. Hr M: I've actually also tried some sodas from Ebeltoft Gaard Bryggeri, and I wasn't overwhelmed. I think, I was a bit disappointed actually. Will try them again, if I get the chance. If you're close to Østerbro, there's a kiosk on Nørre Farimagsgade or Øster Farimagsgade that sells Fentimans sodas. If you need the correct location, just let me know.

Alex: I try not to drink soda either, but I tend to do so a bit too much. But it's hard finding beverages, that I can stomach being lactose intollerant. There's lactose in everything :-)

Christopher: I can really imagine the store being overwhelming. I looked at their website, but ordering anything would be foolish.

And I'll definitely give you band a listen.

Thanks for all the comments, you guys.

  7. That was fantastic. Thank you for sharing, Simon.

There's actually a store like this (not as good, of course, but similar) near the UC Berkeley campus, where I went for my undergraduate degree. The place was quite big, and one entire side of the store was dedicated to smaller run sodas. It was great being able to find something new every day. That store is the only one of its kind I've ever come across.

In any case, the video reminded me of our own niche world of men's style and clothing, and how appreciative I am that there are people like you who write about clothing and style with as much passion and sincere interest as this guy has in soda.

Long time reader, first time commenter. Keep up the great work.

    Best,
    Derek

And thank you so much for the compliment. I hope, that I convey just a fraction of his enthusiasm, as John is really something special.

    Have a great day
